In a recent refurbishment of the domestic water heating system at Premier Inn Brighton City Centre, Whitbread’s nationwide maintenance contractors, Norton Commercial Gas Services Ltd selected Andrews MAXXflo gas-fired storage water heaters to replace the existing units, located on the outside of the building.
Whitbread’s Energy Team asked Norton to consult with Andrews Water Heaters’ technical team to devise a long term solution which would improve the efficiency of the hotel’s water heaters as well as reducing running costs. After surveying the building it was decided to install Andrews MAXXflo high efficiency water heaters in an internal plantroom on the top floor of the building.
Norton Commercial Gas Services sized the project and selected four MAXXflo CWH 120/200 units. Each water heater has a storage capacity of 200 litres, an output of 26 to 122 kW and a recovery rate of 2040 litres per hour through a temperature rise of 50oC. A spokesman for Norton commented: “We always work closely with Andrews Water Heaters and we have a very good relationship with them”.
In order to minimize disruption to guests, the water heaters were positioned and all new pipework in the plantroom was installed before the system was drained down and connections were made to the existing distribution system. Andrews MAXXflo water heaters are designed to provide abundant, virtually instantaneous, domestic hot water to the hotel’s 160 bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms.
The MAXXflo range of condensing, stainless steel water heaters offers the optimum in self-contained, storage water heating for commercial and industrial applications with a high demand for hot water. They are particularly suitable for hotels and sports facilities, where the demand for water peaks at particular times of the day. Thanks to their fast recovery rate and innovative design, carbon footprint, NOx levels and running costs are all kept to a minimum.
Featuring corrosion-resistant stainless steel tanks, these high efficiency units incorporate a fully modulating burner function to provide maximum performance and flexibility. Employing condensing technology, they are capable of achieving up to 98% gross efficiency and low NOx emissions of 25 ppm. Heat input and flow are carefully regulated to produce a closely controlled water temperature and a high temperature anti-Legionella program function is also incorporated.
A digital electronic master controller operates the pre-mix fully modulating gas burners and Building Energy Management System (BEMS) and other external interfaces are provided.
