Washroom dispensers play an invaluable role in the promotion of healthy hand washing habits in the workplace. Employers that are committed to enhancing the well-being of their workforces – while also reducing the damage to service delivery and customer satisfaction caused by staff absence through illness – should choose dispensers and formulations that are accessible, attractive and a pleasure to use.
Serco began providing a range of customer contact and support services for Aegon, a leading life insurance and pensions company, in November 2012. Under the partnership, Serco primarily operates from Aegon’s offices in Lytham St Annes, which Serco plans to establish as a centre of excellence, also delivering business process outsourcing services to other customers.
Washroom design can play a significant role in making employees feel comfortable, supported and cared for. Serco recognised this and brought in GOJO to advise them on the washroom dispensers in the Lytham building, as Lesley Juett, Region 2 Head of Real Estate and FM Operations for Serco UK and Europe, explained: “We wanted to minimise the spread of infections and reduce the amount of time needed to clean the dispensers. We were also keen to ‘make a change’ to the look and feel of the building that people would notice in light of the transfer of the service from Aegon to Serco.”
In order to be truly successful, dispensers need to have a multitude of characteristics that combine good aesthetics, accessibility and ease of use, whilst being equipped with pleasant and effective hygienically advanced formulations. GOJO’s touch-free LTX dispensers fitted the bill perfectly.
The LTX uses innovative technology to intuitively sense the presence of hands and dispense just the right amount of product every time. The fact that they are ‘touch-free’ also increases their hygiene rating, doing away with another surface to touch.
Aesthetics play a valuable role in encouraging people to develop healthy hand care habits. Dispensers that look good and are easy to use, with soap formulations that incorporate the kind of textures and fragrances more associated with luxury consumer brands, are bound to be more popular. GOJO’s LTX dispensers feature CONTROLLED COLLAPSE bottles, which are specially designed to hold their shape while emptying. This makes it easy to monitor soap levels at a glance, but in a more attractive way.
How you refill your dispensers is another important area to consider, as this can have an effect on hygiene and the time it takes to clean and maintain your dispensers. Open reservoir dispensers and refillable hand soap can contribute to cross contamination problems because these types of dispensers are open to the environment. It isn’t always possible for maintenance personnel to properly clean and sanitise dispensers each time they are refilled, and bacteria can therefore grow inside. GOJO SANITARY SEALEDTM refills lock out germs to preserve the effectiveness of its hand hygiene products. This is because each recyclable refill comes factory sealed with a fresh dispensing nozzle, making them quicker and easier to install, too.
GOJO’s newest soap formulations take their inspiration from the ‘spa experience’, incorporating vibrant colours and aromatic scents to further enhance the user experience. GOJO’s Freshberry and Anitibacterial Foam Soaps were selected for Serco.
Employee feedback on the new dispensers was hugely positive, as Lesley Juett confirmed: “According to the team on site, the new dispensers and soap were the talking point around the coffee machines across all the floors, and people loved the change. We have not received any comments regarding skin care issues or hands drying out through use of the new items – so it has certainly met with our expectations.”
Tim Harris, National Account Manager for GOJO Europe, worked with Serco and Bunzl Cleaning & Hygiene Supplies to make the switch as smooth as possible. “With Aegon being a new contract for Serco they were keen to make washroom improvements. A desire to move from manually operated to touch-free dispensers, and the look, feel and fragrance of the Freshberry foam soap, were key drivers in the decision, together with no increase in existing costs. The whole package delivered the stylish looks, ease of use, and effective results that Serco required – and which are becoming ever more essential across the entire facilities management sector.”
