Changes to the Tork zigzag-fold hand towel range is set to dramatically reduce waste, packaging and CO2 emissions.
And the fact that the products are now available in Tork Easy Handling™ packaging will bring further sustainability benefits as well as being much more convenient for the customer.
New technology means that Tork zigzag-fold hand towels have now been compressed to take up less space in warehouses, cleaning cupboards, the lorry and the dispenser. This will significantly reduce transport emissions when delivering Tork zigzag-fold towels to the customer - a move that will result in major carbon footprint reductions throughout the supply chain.
“The new compressed towels will reduce carbon emissions by 80 tonnes of CO2 per km, which is a huge environmental benefit,” said SCA Product and Segment Manager Charlotte Branwhite.
“The fact that three bundles of towels fit into the dispenser compared with two in most zigzag-fold systems reduces filling time by up to 25 per cent while also reducing packaging and waste. This also means that 20 per cent less space is required to store the same quantity of towels.
“Meanwhile, the fact that towels are now being delivered in Tork Easy Handling packaging makes life easier for the cleaner and improve efficiencies for the facilities manager.”
Tork Easy Handling packaging incorporates various convenient functions designed to improve ergonomics compared with traditional packaging systems. The packs are easy to open, easy to flatten, easy to carry away and easy to dispose of.
Integral handles allow the cleaner to carry two cardboard boxes at a time - one in each hand – which cuts by 50 per cent the time spent transporting boxes of hand towels to storage rooms. The boxes are also easier to open without the use of sharp tools and have features adapted to different finger sizes.
The packaging helps to protect cleaning staff from injuries caused by lifting and carrying heavy boxes which will can help reduce absenteeism. “Also, if cleaners save time carrying around product boxes and disposing of them afterwards, they will have more time to focus on other cleaning tasks,” says Charlotte.
