Having suffered a recent power outage, Wootton Bassett based Plantronics realised that it needed to ensure the reliability and continuity of power to its data centre by installing a power support system. Looking for a company that had a reputation for quality, reliability and professionalism, Plantronics chose a standby power system from shentongroup, a leading supplier of integrated power solutions. Won on a competitive tender, shentongroup has provided the company with a complete turnkey solution including generator, installation work, commissioning and ongoing service and maintenance.
Headquartered in Santa Cruz, California, Plantronics has been at the forefront of the headset revolution since 1961 when two airline pilots set out to invent an alternative to the conventional headsets of commercial aviation. Nowadays the company’s products are used in virtually every area of modern life from pilots, astronauts and emergency workers to call centres, in the street and around the home.
Like most companies today, Plantronics relies on a reliable power supply for all its communication, such as telephone and ICT. Therefore protecting the data centre and its air conditioning system against power outages was crucial, as any powercut would have a detrimental effect on the running of the company.
To ensure that there is no break in power, shentongroup engineers specified an 110kVA generator and 200amp AMF changeover panel. The generator has been placed on a concrete base, also supplied by shentongroup, and is enclosed in a security cage. It is supplied with an SNMP adaptor; weatherproof super-silent canopy and is equipped with integral fuel tank. To ensure the consistent reliability of the generator, Plantronics has contracted with shentongroup to supply its Powercare24 service agreement which it is supplying free of charge for the first year.
