AUGUSTINIAN CARE MAKES STRATEGIC DECISION TO CONTRACT WITH POWERCALL UK

Having spent around £1 million to upgrade the power supply to its retirement village, situated in the grounds of St. George’s Retreat in Ditchling Common East Sussex, Augustinian Care looked for a more cost effective solution than buying generators to safeguard the power supply to its three Care Homes in the event of a powercut. The answer was Powercall UK, which has now provided its unique generator callout service to St. Mary’s, St. Rita’s and St. Clare’s.

The three care homes each provides nursing care, including specialist care for dementia and Alzheimer’s, and accommodate sixty residents. The Homes have their own clinical room and nurse’s station, laundry room and lifts. There are extensive communal areas including dining rooms, lounges, visitor’s room and chapel as well as the extensive grounds of St. George’s retreat.

“The emergency generator service provided by Powercall UK allows all three care homes to maintain a continuous service in the event of a powercut”, says Stuart Warren, Property and Housing Manager at Augustinian Care. “This means all care services can continue to function such as heating, lighting, security systems, safety equipment and electrically operated beds and a lift.”

Now each of the care homes is fitted with a connection point so that in the event of a powercut Powercall’s nationwide service can despatch a generator from a local depot with a target of 1-hour delivery time, and a guaranteed maximum of 3 hours. Upon arrival the delivery engineer connects the generator and advises the customer to switch over to the generator. An indicator lamp is fitted to the changeover switch to advise the customer when the mains power is restored.

“Powercall UK is the only company to provide such a service”, concluded Stuart Warren. “For a charitable organisation like ours, investing in generators for each of our homes plus maintenance, refuelling, etc would be a huge expenditure. Therefore the Powercall UK service is an ideal solution”.
