The Briggait is an iconic Grade A landmark in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant Quay. This magnificent Victorian building was home to the main fish market for almost 100 years until the market moved to a new location in 1970s.
The building then had no real function and over the years fell into a state of serious disrepair and was at one stage in danger of being demolished until a recent major redevelopment was agreed. This new transformation has delivered a vibrant space that will further support the Arts in Glasgow and the 5,500 square metres of space now integrates: workspaces and studios, offices, shop units, a central public space, a café, meeting space and a heritage interpretation room.
Sympathetically restoring the building has been a labour of love involving many different skills sets and levels of expertise. Supporting the M+E aspect of the redevelopment, Grundfos Pumps worked with contractor Mitie and consultants Buro Happold to ensure that this aspect of the new project would meet the demands and provide the pump back-up required. Performing these roles are members of the energy efficient Grundfos MAGNA and the versatile TP families of circulators.
So once again this building is set to become a lively and vibrant hub that will draw people to come and visit and it is set to continue to be a architectural jewel for many years to come.
