Some famous bands, as well as staff benefit from the safety compliance tests carried out by LUPC preferred supplier CLM. The sound equipment and lighting of the students union Venue topped up the University of London’s inventory listing 9,000 portable electrical appliances to be tested over 18 days during the last summer holiday.
Equipment known to have been used for the sell-out gigs at the ULU by the Mojo award-winners Fleet Foxes and chart-toppers the Ting Tings (seen in photo) revealed only one failure reported to the FM contractor Mitie. The students union is one of nine properties covered by the contract, which also included the 860-accomodation International Hall, where there was also a restaurant, launderette and cinema to test.
With the university’s buildings contained within only a quarter-mile radius, this contract was plain sailing compared to some of CLM’s more extreme work. Engineers Jane van'tZand and Marion Borland from Inverness in Scotland tested appliances at the 1,244m-altitude Cairn Gorm Mountain's ski centre.
This followed PAT checks in a primary school on the Ross-shire peninsula for Highland Council, where typical road conditions made bicycles the most practical onward transport from the small post service boat.
"The safety laws of course cover everyone, everywhere throughout the country, which is why our engineers travel to some of the most contrasting sites,” said CLM director Shaun Caddick. For more information about CLM’s full scope of compliancy services, key www.clm-group.co.uk.
