POWERCALL PROVIDES ‘POWER WITHIN THE HOUR’ COVER TO MAGDALENE

POWERCALL PROVIDES ‘POWER WITHIN THE HOUR’ COVER TO MAGDALENE

Emergency generators support company, Powercall UK, has sealed a deal with independent telecom services provider, Magdalene. The five year contract follows the signing of an agreement between Magdalene and leading fibre networks solutions provider, Geo, to handle a fully managed service supporting Geo’s fibre network and ancillary infrastructure. As part of this agreement Powercall UK is providing its emergency callout generator service to 21 Geo network sites around the UK.

The contract ensures that all Geo network sites will have secondary back up power provided by Powercall’s nationwide generator network in case of mains failure. The network is serviced by a 24/7-control room, which despatches a generator from a local depot with a target time of less than one hour and a guaranteed commitment to a maximum of three hours.

Magdalene’s collaborative partnership with Geo covers all phases of the network lifecycle - from initial needs definition through to project implementation, acceptance and network operations (first and second line maintenance and network monitoring). The company’s total reliance on protecting its network from power outages and surges means that a continuous, reliable, power source is especially critical and its dependence on standby power is a vital element in its customer service.

“With so many sites it would neither be practical nor cost effective to install secondary standby power at each of Geo’s sites”, says Darrel Wainwright, General Manager Network Operations at Magdalene. “An integral part of the contract has been our ability to demonstrate that we can quickly and cost effectively provide secondary standby power to support Geo’s sites in the event of a prolonged power cut. Powercall UK has enabled us to meet this criteria”.

Powercall UK’s network of standby generators is available throughout the UK on 24-7 call out. Since it was launched in January 2005, Powercall has received a large number of enquiries and orders from a wide range of companies including other major telecom networks, healthcare organisations, universities, local authorities, care homes and other multi-site applications. With the demand for emergency power set to grow at 7% per annum over the next five years, and with predictions of more extreme weather and a less secure mains power supply Powercall UK is finding a high demand for its service.
